Relax
Have you been stress lately? Do you know what happens to your body when you are stressed?
Our body is so amazing and works so perfectly that has a mechanism to support you when you are in danger, the sympathetic nervous system, survival mode, also knows as fight, flight or freeze.
In an instant your body would change and provide you with what you need to deal with the situation. This system would:
- Prepare the body for intense physical activity, blood rushes to the arms and legs.
- Heart rate increases
- Causes the liver to release glucose for quick energy
- Dilates the lungs to increase oxygen
- Dilate the pupils of the eyes to take in more information
- Stops digestion, even if you have just eaten a full meal
- Adrenal glands release adrenaline
This is a great mechanism when we are in real danger. It becomes problematic when it is overactive, reacting to situations that are not life threatening.
The parasympathetic nervous system, rest and digest, is the ideal state. What it does:
- Relax the body and allows rest
- Decrease heart rate
- Stops releasing glucose from the liver
- Contracts the lungs - Contracts the poplins of the eyes
- Helps you feel safe
- Allows digestion and nutrients can be fully utilised
To get out of this overacting mode, first we need to identify what are the triggers and work on them, then we need to practice mindfulness to assure our mind we are safe now.
Reiki and any other type of energy work helps you get to that level of relaxation where your body can heal.
